It seems the citizens are slowly gearing up to conserve the lung spaces in the city.

Soon after the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) staged a silent protest to protect the People’s Park in Nazarbad, the Citizen’s Coordination Committee has decided to stage a protest in front of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) on July 10 to address the grievances related to the Freedom Fighter’s Memorial Park in the city.

Over 50 people, including locals, who met under the aegis of the committee, recently, complained that the park has reached a state of peril, despite the MCC spending lakhs of rupees.

The tepid smell emanating from the drain laid through the park greets the visitors, while the walking path is damaged due to rains.

The only fountain in the park is in a dilapidated state and the basket ball court at the entrance gets inundated when it rains. Nowadays women are afraid of taking a stroll in the park as it has turned into a haven for hoodlums.

Some citizens stressed on the significance to conserve the park for future generations as it is historically important, for being the centre of activities during the freedom movement.

Advisor to the committee H R Bapu Satyanarayana, activist B Ravi and others took part in the meeting.
