Bengaluru: A frontline staff member of the Forest Department was killed while driving elephants into the forests in Elekeri village of Channapatna taluk, Bangalore South district, on Tuesday evening.

Shreyas (21) was part of the response team that was trying to drive three elephants away from human habitations located near the Satanur range.

He suffered injuries after an elephant attack during the operation. He was taken to hospital but didn't respond to treatment.

Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre expressed his condolences and told officials to immediately release the ex gratia amount to the family.
