Let the elected representatives question the working hour of the Anganawadi workers after fixing their salary problem, said Anganawadi Workers’ and Assistants’ Federation State Vice-president T P Ramesh.
Speaking to the media persons on Thursday, he said that if the government fails to pay the honorarium to the workers before 5th of every month, Anganawadi workers will have to stop working in the Anganawadi centers by noon like before, he warned.
After the revision of honorarium by the State and the Central government, Rs 4,500 pay scale for Angawadi workers and Rs 2,250 for the assistants has been fixed. But, the Department has not distributed the revised salary to the workers over the last nine months. “If the workers are not paid with what they deserve, then what is the point in working throughout the day? How can they lead their life with this meager amount?” he asked.
Ramesh also warned of staging a protest in front of the Zilla Panchayat President’s office if the revised salary is not distributed.
District administration and politicians require Anganawadi workers for the success of any programme. It is these workers who work behind the scenes. But why this negligence when it comes to the payment of salary which they deserve.
Let the MLAs, ZP President and the elected representatives take action so that the honorarium would reach them on time, he said. “At a time when the farm labourers are earning Rs 200 to Rs 250 per day, the Anganawadi workers who have been working since 35 years are paid meager amount and are burdened with heavy work, he said.
Federation District President Sharada, General Secretary Seethamma, Madikeri Taluk Federation President Tharamani were present at the meet.
