The Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad (IIIT Dharwad) will hold its seventh convocation on July 4 at its permanent campus in Tadasinakoppa near Dharwad.

Informing this to media persons, IIIT-Dharwad Director Mahadev Prasanna stated that Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Director General N Kalaiselvi will be the chief guest and present the degrees, while Board of Governors at IIIT-Dharwad Shridhar Vembu will preside over the convocation.

This year, the institute will confer degrees upon a total of 258 students, which includes, 132 graduates in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), 70 graduates in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI), 55 graduates in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and one PhD.

Gold medals, certificates

Gold medals and certificates will be presented to outstanding students on the occasion.

President of India Gold Medal will be presented to Amrit Anand, Institute Gold Medals to Amrit Anand, Karthik Avinash and
Prerana Bhat, while Director’s Medal will be given to Aarsh Desai.

Enduri Jahnavi will be receiving the best outgoing girl student award.

On placement, Mahadev Prasanna said that over 160 graduates have secured positions in reputed companies, with the highest CTC reaching Rs 71.94 lakh per annum. Additionally, around 40 students have opted to pursue higher education at prestigious universities in India and abroad.

IIIT Dharwad continues to witness steady academic growth with 253, 269, and 319 students currently enrolled in the seventh, fifth, and third semesters respectively across its three undergraduate programmes.

Speaking on the newly initiated projects, Prasanna said that a KPTCL-funded consultancy to enhance the performance of high-voltage substation earthing systems has been taken up.

Machine learning

An Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) project supported by the Ministry of Education, focusing on extracting Indic concepts from ancient Indian literature through machine learning models.

In a major initiative, the IKS division of the
Ministry of Education has supported multiple long-term research efforts at the institute with a focus on culturally rooted technologies and innovation.

These include the development of edge-based learning solutions and knowledge extraction from Indic textual sources, he explained.

Additionally, the institute continues to build its capabilities in wireless communication and AI, evidenced by funded research projects exceeding Rs 2 crore across multiple years, alongside significant publications and knowledge dissemination through workshops and seminars, he said.
