Mangaluru: A 60-year-old man was killed after a wild elephant attacked him at Gundi near Southadka temple under Dharmasthala police station limits on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Balakrishna Shetty (60), a resident of Muratthamel. An eyewitness told police that Shetty died on the spot after the jumbo attacked him at around 12 noon.

Forest officials, police personnel from Dharmasthala and Southadka gram panchayat officials visited the spot, police sources said.

KPCC general secretary Rakshith Shivaram met Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology Eshwar Khandre and submitted a memorandum urging government to disburse maximum compensation to the family of Shetty, who was working in a roadside canteen near Southadka temple.
