As part of the drive, the applications for joining the armed forces will be made available free of cost at the offices of superintendents of police in all the districts from December 20. Permission has been obtained from the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to issue photocopies of the application in case of shortage.

S M Jaamdar, Principal Secretary, Home Department, said here on Wednesday that a careful study revealed that lack of awareness was the main reason for poor response from the State candidates. “Last year, the Karnataka quota stood at 1,500. There were more than 32,000 applicants and only 900 secured the job. The quota this year is 3,000 personnel and we need to attract at least 1.2 lakh applicants,” Jaamdar said.

He added that while the applications are available only in English or Hindi, the instructions to candidates have been translated into Kannada. The proposal to conduct the examination in regional languages will be considered in the coming year. The SSC will conduct a selection process for about 90,000 posts in the Central armed forces––Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal and Assam Rifles. The minimum qualification for applying is a pass in SSLC. The applications will have to be submitted by January 4, 2012.

Rajagopalan, SSC Regional Director, said submission of more than one application could lead to rejection.

The information about the vacancies, the application forms and other details can also be accessed at http://ssckkr.kar.nic.in,  http://ssc.nic.in, http://ssconline.nic.in and http://www.sscregistration.sifyitest.com. The DIG of CRPF said most of the candidates from Karnataka fail in the endurance test, unable to run five km in 24 minutes.

The physical tests for the current batch of recruitment will be conducted in February-March 2012 and on clearing that, the written tests are scheduled for April 22. Candidates who clear both these rounds need to appear for the medical test in June-July.
