Thiruvananthapuram: The proactive intervention of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) for the release of two Malayali nuns held in Chhattisgarh has triggered criticism from the CPM that the Congress was trying to take credit over the incident.
The BJP in Kerala, which is facing a setback over the issue has alleged that the political drama of opposition parties was adversely affecting the release of the nuns.
CPM leader and All India Democratic Women Association national president P K Sreemathi, who led a delegation to Chhattisgarh on Friday, criticized that the Congress for trying to take credit for the efforts to help the nuns.
Though CPM and Congress are part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, the Congress MPs from Kerala were not ready to hold any talks with the CPM MPs from Kerala on the steps to be taken for ensuring the release of the nuns.
Even as CPM MP K Radhakrishnan said that a joint delegation shall take up the matters, the Congress was not willing for it as their intention was only to take credits, said Sreemathi.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar met prominent bishops in Kerala nd tried to convince them about the party's efforts to ensure the release of the two. Misleading information was being spread by the opposition parties on the matter, he alleged.
