Mandla: A man allegedly hacked a woman to death with an axe on Thursday in Madhya Pradesh's tribal-dominated Mandla district and then killed a person who had witnessed the crime, a police official said.
The incident took place in Gharguti village, some 60 kilometres from the district headquarters, under the jurisdiction of Salwah outpost around 11 am, Ghughri police station in charge Pooja Baghel said.
"Mahesh Maravi (45) killed his neighbour Hariom Bai (45) with an axe following a dispute. Rajkumar Uikey (30) saw the incident and tried to flee from there. Maravi chased him down and killed him with the same weapon. Residents and passersby overpowered Maravi, tied him to a pole and called police," Baghel said.
Maravi, who has been charged with two murders and other offences, is being questioned to find out what was the trigger for the gruesome attacks, the official said.
