Mumbai: Veteran politician and NCP (SP) MLC Eknath Khadse’s daughter Rohini Khadse donned the lawyer’s black blazer white neckband as she went to a court in Pune to defend her husband Dr Pranjal Khewalkar, who has been arrested in a rave party case.
A lawyer by education, Rohini Khadse is the women wing president of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP).
“I will not say anything as the matter is sub-judice,” said Rohini Khadse on Tuesday.
During a Sunday dawn raid on an apartment in the upmarket Kharadi area of Pune, police seized 2.7 grams of a cocaine-like substance, 70 gm of a ganja-like substance, a hookah pot, various hookah flavours, and liquor and beer bottles and seven persons - Pranjal Khewalkar, Nikhil Poptani, Sameer Sayyad, Shripad Yadav, Sachin Bhombe, Isha Singh and Prachi Sharma, under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
They were sent on two-day remand, following which they were produced in the court on Tuesday.
In a related development, Eknath Khadse, a former minister and ex leader of the opposition in Legislative Assembly, asked: “The place where this action took place, there were only five to seven people in a house. There was no music, no dance, no commotion. Saying there was a rave party at such a place is ridiculous. The police should clarify the exact definition of a rave party.”
Besides, he wanted to know how the video footage from this party reached the media directly. “Who gave the police the authority to make this information public. During the operation, the faces of the male and female accused were broadcast, which is against the rules. Was the police's intention only to defame, this question arises,” he said.
