New Delhi: Reacting to the Malegaon blast case verdict, the BJP said that the concept of Hindu terror was a bogey created by the Congress during the UPA regime.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Congress’s attempt to raise the issue of Hindu terror was a conspiracy. He also demanded that the accused be compensated for the defamation and alleged torture they faced.

“It was a well-calculated policy of the Congress party for sheer vote-bank politics,” Prasad said. “As a political party, we welcome this verdict from the BJP.”

“Colonel Purohit was a decorated officer and he was framed by planting RDX in his house. Pragya Thakur, as you know, is a politician and a sadhvi and she was so badly tortured that she can now no longer walk well,” he added.

A day earlier, speaking in the Rajya Sabha as part of the debate on Operation Sindoor, Amit Shah said that a Hindu can never be a terrorist.

"Gandhis must apologise"

Prasad also alleged that the WikiLeaks expose indicated that in 2010, Rahul Gandhi had told the US ambassador that extremist Hindu groups are more dangerous than the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi, both former Congress presidents, should apologise to the country, Prasad said. They have also been linked to attempts to defame Modi, he added.

Senior Congress leader Danish Ali said he was not surprised by the decision. "The script for the Malegaon verdict was written back in 2016 when pressure was put on the NIA’s (former) prosecutor, Rohini Salian," he said.
