A group of men allegedly placed a bone in a plate of vegetable biryani to escape paying their bill at a restaurant in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, but their act was caught on CCTV.
On July 31, Biryani Bay restaurant at Shastri Chowk in the Cantonment Police Station area raised a complaint against a group of eight to ten young men who ordered veg as well as non-veg biryani to try and trick the restaurant by placing a bone inside the veg biryani.
Once the food was served, one among the group called out yelling that there is a bone in the veg-briyani and attempted to blame the restaurant's service.
The customers were asked to wait and the restaurant reported the matter to the police immediately, asking to probe the CCTV footage.
CCTV evidence
However, the footage, which has gone viral on social media, clearly exposed the youths.
In the CCTV video, a youth is shown handing a bone to the other, who then discreetly places it into the veg biryani plate.
In the next sequence, "No proper hygiene" slammed a guy with a bone in his veg-biryani at the restaurant. “Veg mei haddi nikli hai. Koi safai nahi hai yaha pe," (We found a bone in a veg dish, there is no cleanliness here).
Briyani Bay restaurant owner Ravikar Singh also pointed the footage claiming that the young men intentionally placed the bone in veg-briyani plate to wave off the bill, adding that there is no way for "contamination" as non-vegetarian food is separately cooked in his kitchen.
“They clearly wanted to avoid paying the bill, which was around Rs 5,000-6,000. Their actions were completely deliberate," HT quoted Singh confirming to the police.
The restaurant official claimed that the police did not file a complaint against the men involved in the dine-and-dash.
