Your games stand on slippery ground with the downpour. As the action on the pickleball, tennis, squash and badminton courts begins to shift indoors, here are some tips sports physiotherapist Dr Karishma Sanghavi has that you must keep in mind to keep your muscles supple and grip on the ground firm.

Follow the rules

Warm-up and cool-down play a vital role. So, ensure you warm-up first instead of just jumping headlong into the first serve, and cool-down adequately after the game. Take a few minutes to stretch your shoulders, hips and feet to get them moving.

On a regular basis, maintain mobility and a muscle strengthening routine during your work-outs.

Get your shoes right

Wear fitted shoes that support the turf you are playing on. Avoid wearing running shoes to the courts. For concrete courts, you need a comfortable, cushioned fit with secure laces. Extra cushioning absorbs impact and lessens the stress on your hips and knees while playing and swerving.

Wood flooring needs light shoes with good grip for agile footwork.
