I first saw her picture as she cuddled in my son’s arms, a tiny just-born soft bundle of silky skin and brown eyes, and fell in love. As she grew older, we saw more pictures and videos of her being cossetted by my son and daughter-in-law. She is their adorable little one, and has become ours too.
Because she is a Covid baby, and because of the long distance, we finally met her almost three years later. She is as beautiful as in her pictures.
When we first stepped into her home, she welcomed us politely, but remained a little wary of us for a few days. She decided one day that we were family, and let us be her friends.
She loves long walks and when we go out with her, we get to meet a million of her friends- Coco, Dino, Joory, Sienna, Theo- and their parents, and marvel at her ability to endear herself to all. My brother and sister-in-law visited us recently and have become doting grand uncle and aunt to the little one.
A walk with her is a roller coaster of fun and emotions. She runs and wants us to keep up with her. That flying silky hair and those sweet brown eyes are so beautiful that other walkers are compelled to stop and talk with her. Our walks are exhilarating and addictive. She sometimes frets at the sweaters she must wear in winter, and dislikes shoes, but her purple jacket and red shoes add to her adorable looks. Baths or brushing her teeth are a bother, but she gamely puts up with them.
She loves chicken and fish, cheese and eggs, but is also a connoisseur of dosas, ghee-idli, dal-rice, roti and oranges. She is moody and must be often coaxed to eat her food, with the first morsel being fed by either parent.
Much as she loves to be among family at home, she likes to go to daycare too. The other day, my son went to pick her up at daycare, and she ran all the way home, all agog to meet us. She loves to curl up with her grandpa on the sofa, and they make for a lovely pair, as they endeavour to outdo each other in their snoring.
Her soft brown melting eyes are like magnets and can melt the hardest heart into giving into her demands. I think she knows that too. She is the apple of our eyes, and we will miss her when we return home. K is our mischievous little grand-pup, an amazing little King Charles Cavalier whom we adore.
