No one will deny that we are living in stressful times and stress is causing havoc in our lives. Stress has taken away the tinge from our lives.

I know someone who from a young age has been in all kinds of difficulties and a huge amount of stress. I happened to speak with him the other day and he sounded quite cheerful and positive despite decades of struggling with his problems of which he is not completely out as yet.

He started a business at a very young age and soon tasted success. With every new success he kept expanding his business with passion. However, his successes did not last long.

Partially due to poor decision making and partially due to unfavourable circumstances, he incurred huge losses and he got himself entangled in disputes, which, to this day, he has not been able to sort out.

When I talked to him I commended him on his resolve and patience in dealing with his problems and asked him how he was able to meet such huge amounts of stress and yet keep is sanity.

His reply was “I have realised that this is what I am dealt with and I have no choice but to deal with it and there is no point in sulking over it as it only makes it worse. I have many problems but I take one day at a time and do what best I can. I have also realised that God has been guiding me throughout in his mysterious ways.”

When I heard this it made an impact on me as it came from someone who has lived it and experienced it and not from just hearsay.

Although we have our own ways of dealing with stresses and problems yet when I heard him put it in such a succinct manner it made a mark.

To paraphrase: It is important to accept the situation we are in and not sulk over it as it will only make it worse. And be prepared to deal with it in the best way we can.

We should not look at all our problems all at once. Take one day at a time because that is all that you can do.

Lastly know that when we humbly and sincerely prepare ourselves to face our problems we will not be alone as the help of God will be always with us to sail us through our most difficult times.
