‘Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.’ Oscar Wilde
Memories are those moments of our lives from the past – some good that we would like to remember, in which we revel, and some bad that we wished we did not, more like nightmares. The present moment if not cherished, passes down the memory lane. It is said, live in the present moment.
If memory fades and a person has trouble remembering, then one is tagged as suffering from ‘Alzheimer’s’, ‘Dementia,’ ‘Amnesia’ and what not. On the other hand, if memory is good, then they say he has an elephant-sized memory!
In the spiritual context, the former fortunate and the latter less fortunate. The one not influenced by the past moments or more precisely stays unattached is said to live happier in the present. Conscious living, also termed ‘mindfulness,’ is desired. People remain people!
One must inculcate an understanding that we accept people and enjoy situations the way they come to us and not exert to over-analyse them. No need to paint them and taint out memories! Inefficiency is the efficiency that the world throws at us to live life in a right balanced manner. When we meet people, we let our emotions run high with our likes and dislikes, and thus people remain coloured!
In the present moment, we must strive to discuss the many beautiful common topics at hand. Instead, gloating about our own achievements or even lamenting on life’s experiences may not mean anything to the other person. Don’t we often witness two people who meet spend most of their time discussing about a third person not even present there - living in present moment why even do that?!
When we have enjoyed this moment in the company of others, we have created more new memories for them that will be cherished by them forever, while we learn to remain mindful and detached. When present moment is enlivened by healthy common topics, this beautiful world is further enhanced.
Let us carry a diary of purpose with us always where memories assume a true meaning.
