The wait is almost over. The day South Indian women await to fast, pray and devote themselves to Goddess Varalakshmi for the well being of their loved ones, husband, friends and families will be celebrated on August 8, 2025 this year, second friday of Shravan maasa according to Hindu Calendar.
History
It is believed that Charumathi, a sincere devotee of Goddess Lakshmi was blessed with prosperity, wealth, and abundance in her family after following Varalakshmi Viratam as instructed in her dream by the Goddess .
Offering prayers to boon-giving form of Goddess Lakshmi is considered to auspicious as the worship invokes blessings across wealth, earth, learning, love, fame, peace, pleasure, and strength.
How Varalakshmi Vratham is performed?
Varalakshmi Vratham begins with an early morning bath followed by tidying up of the home and adorning the goddess with divine grace.
A kalasha with touches of tumeric and kunguma on the silver brass will be placed before the Goddess Lakshmi. Decorated with fruits, flowers, gold jewellery and a saree, the Kalasha will be filled with rice inside, fresh mango leaves around the rim and a coconut at the top.
Married women invite other women, neighbours, friends and family, and together chant mantras, perform aarathi, tie yellow sacred threads followed by the exchange of kunguma, sweets, gifts as a blessing for each other's family and loved ones longevity.
