Ahmedabad: An Indian delegation led by Gujarat sports minister Harsh Sanghavi and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P T Usha presented a formal proposal for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

The proposal was submitted to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee in London on Tuesday, the state government said in a release on Wednesday.

"The 2030 edition carries historic significance, marking 100 years of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. India’s bid positions Amdavad as the host city for this Centenary edition, offering a compact Games footprint centred on international-standard venues, robust transport systems, and high-quality accommodation," the government stated in the official release.

The government said that the city has a "proven record" for hosting events such as International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, Indian Premier League and 2022 National Games.

"The city will also host the Asian Aquatics 2025, Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, World Police and Fire Games 2029 and several other multi & single sports events, adding operational experience in the lead-up to 2030," the release stated.

"We’ve officially submitted our proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee in London. With world-class venues, seamless infrastructure, and a proven track record of hosting global sporting events, Ahmedabad is all set to script history!," Sanghavi posted on X.

The Indian team was led by Sanghavi, P T Usha, President, Commonwealth Games Association, Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary, Sports, Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ashwini Kumar, Principal Secretary, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, Gujarat, Banchha Nidhi Pani, Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Raghuram Iyer, CEO, Commonwealth Games Association of India, among others.
