A report by the Indian Express has revealed that the BCCI's Committee of Administrators (CoA) is keen on selectors having a say in picking the playing XI.
This comes even as the BCCI constitution says the selection panel for overseas tours should consist only of the team captain, vice-captain and coach.
The debate came forth in the wake of Karun Nair being excluded from the playing XI in England without a proper explanation.
Indian captain Virat Kohli in a press conference on Wednesday wiped his hands off the Nair affair, saying: “These things shouldn’t be brought here. The selectors have already spoken about it and it’s not my job to respond. If a person is spoken to about a certain topic, then it should be clear for everyone that there is nothing else in this.”
He also said that he did not have a say in the selection process: “People merge everything and make it a circle. I am doing my job as a captain and they are doing their duties as selectors. It’s not a joint thing here. People think that it’s a combined process and everything is happening from one place and that’s not true. Selection is not part of my job and I don’t think I am in a position to comment on this issue. It’s not a job of a captain to talk about it. It’s completely up to the selectors."
