The Central government-owned Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC), which runs many emporia housing handicrafts and handloom products, is planning to set up an outlet at the Commonwealth Games Village.

"We want to put up our showroom at the Commonwealth Games Village," CCIC managing director MA Ibrahimi said on the sidelines of an exhibition here today.

The 'cottage emporium' would develop quality handloom and handicrafts products, fabrics and ready-to-wear items with Commonwealth Games as theme. Besides, it would formulate marketing strategies for promotion of its products.

India has a rich heritage of handcrafted items and handloom products like decorative items, hand-woven garments, ceramics and leather accessories.  Ibrahimi said CCIC has its emporia in five cities-- New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore--and franchisee showrooms in Gurgaon and Patna.

It has a francisee arrangement in Denmark and would expand in the US, Europe and the Middle East. "We are planning to expand our franchises both within the country and outside."
