Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation’s contingent for the six-a-side tournament — which is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee — was picked based on individual performances in the Independence Day Cup held last August.

The BSSF football team had represented India at the Games in Athens last year, but could only make it as far as the first round after four consecutive losses. Apart from making their mark by participating in the Games, BSSF is hoping to bring the event to the City in 2015.

“This is a proud moment for the City and the country,” said Elvis Joseph, BSSF director. “The government helped us a lot to make this happen. In 2015 we are hoping to get the Games to India. We’ll get the details for the bidding procedure on June 28.”

Squad: Arjun Krish Malhotra (Mallya Aditi School), Aditya Acharya Manepally (NAFL); Krish Sunil Lund (Indus International School); Niraad Bose (St Joseph’s Boys School); Shashank Reddy (National Public School); Tejas Chandru Rajeshwari (Jain Heritage School); Lalith Kumar Bhawarlal Choudhary (Ebenezer International School); Vignesh Avarekad Sreenivas  (Vidyanikethan School); Yashas Sunil Choudhary (Bangalore International School).
