The stage is set and we have a blockbuster start to the 2023 ODI World Cup as holders England take on 2019 runners-up New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
If anyone needs reminding, the Kiwis come into today's fixture with a score to settle to settle.
Ben Stokes' last-ditch dive in the final over of the 2019 Final fortuitously led to a boundary helping England tie the score and force a Super Over. Jofra Archer then defended 16 in the Super Over as New Zealand fell short of just one run, suffering the fate of a final ball 'Run Out'.
New Zealand will be hoping to erase the memories of that heartbreak with a dominant performance today.
PITCH & WEATHER CONDITIONS: It’s going to play dry and fairly flat, but once the spinners come on, there will be plenty of turn to be had along with bounce. Also, teams chasing under lights will hold a slight edge since a venue this large and fairly open turns into a dew collector in slick time.
As for the weather, it’s hot, and it intends to stay that way for the rest of the month and beyond.
New Zealand win the Toss and Tom Latham opts to bowl first.
Tom Latham: Going to have a bowl. Looks a reasonably good surface. Hopefully later on it gets better to bat. Preparation has been great. Guys came together from different parts of the world a week ago. Unfortunately Kane's not quite ready yet. Ferguson has got a bit of a niggle. Sodhi, Kane, Southee all miss out.
Jos Buttler: Would've bowled first as well. Looks a really good wicket. Preparation has been okay. Had a good series against NZ at home. Very proud of the achievement four years ago. Ben's going to miss this game. Has a niggle with his hip. Guys missing out are Atkinson, Topley, Willey and Stokes.
England (Playing XI): Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (WK/C), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood.
New Zealand (Playing XI): Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (WK/C), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, James Neesham, Matt Henry and Trent Boult.

If New Zealand were still haunted by that heart-breaking Super Over defeat in the 2019 CWC Final, then they surely put that behind them with an unbelievably dominant performance.
The bowlers did excellently to restrict England to just 282/9 and then Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra did all the heavy-lifting with the bat to wrap up the victory in style.
The margin of victory will surely give New Zealand's Net Run Rate a healthy boost which may come in handy as we approach the later stages of the tournament.
For now, England need to dust themselves off and prepare to put out a statement in their next game, when they take the field against Bangladesh on October 10, Tuesday.
New Zealand next face Netherlands on October 9, Monday.
Rachin Ravindra (Player of the Match): Great to have a great day. Boys bowled and fielded well to restrict them to 280. Luckily I had Devon out there to show me how to do it. (I'm) Very very close with Devon. Special to finish it off with him. 4-5 years ago, we all knew Devon would become the player he is. Above all he's a great guy.
[On when he knew he was batting at three]
It was yesterday (because of) the thing (niggle) with Lockie. Good to get the opportunity. We'll see what happens. I'm actually quite a good sleeper luckily. There was some swing, but the surface was really good to bat on.
Disappointing day, outplayed by New Zealand, tough to take that defeat. One loss, still a long tournament. Lot of guys in our team have played a lot of cricket. We have beaten teams this way before and we have been beaten like this before as well. Tough to build any pressure with the start they got. We lacked being clinical with our executions. Right shots weren't quite executed. We will keep it positive, can't be too defensive but we weren't clinical in shot selection and execution. Margin for error was very less on that pitch. The two guys played exceptionally well, fantastic partnership we were well beaten. Skidded on even better under lights, that's why we wanted to bowl as well. I thought he is back to his old self. Don't think there is any question about Joe. He's a run-maker in any format he plays. We will wait and see. He is working hard with the physio.Jos Buttler
Obviously, a fantastic partnership between Rachin and Devon. From the 30-over mark onwards, to restrict them to 280 was fantastic. It has been a quick build-up - the warm-ups and guys from Bangladesh. We've played a bit in these conditions and I thought we adapted to these conditions beautifully. The two seamers - Henners and Boulty - did a great job and took wickets at crucial times. To restrict them to 280 was outstanding. Probably, the most pleasing thing was Devon and Rachin just reacted to what was being bowled. Rachin played a fantastic innings and proud of him. Looking forward to get around him tonight.Tom Latham
