One of India’s most beloved and celebrated musical ensembles, The Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC), delivered an electrifying performance at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in Guwahati.
Best known for their soul-stirring music and genre-defying creativity, the choir performed a noteworthy set of eight minutes as part of the opening ceremony celebrations of the game.
The team gave a stunning performance moments after the toss and before the national anthem, enthralling everyone at the stadium with their absolute blend of music, culture, and sport.
One of the major highlights of their performance was Vande Mataram's stirring rendition, which was received by thunderous applause, raising patriotic fervour.
In an emotional tribute, the choir celebrated the life and legacy of Assam's beloved superstar musician, Zubeen Garg. Along with heartfelt remembrances, Shreya Ghoshal and Papon also offered special tributes, paying respect to Zubeen Da’s profound impact on Indian music.
Talking about the same, the Shillong Chamber Choir said, “It was a proud moment for all of us to represent the North East and to perform on such a global stage. Just like Zubeen Da, who was and will always remain the pride of Assam and India, we hope to carry forward the spirit of the region through our music.”
Through their performance at the Women’s Cricket World Cup, the Shillong Chamber Choir has once again given the example as cultural leaders of the North East, showcasing its rich musical heritage while bringing audiences together with the universal power of music.
