England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first in the third match of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy at the Lord's Cricket Ground.
Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley -- the England openers had put on 43 -- when Nitish Kumar Reddy removed them in quick succession in his first over to give a jolt for England in the first session.
Ducket (23) was caught behind the wicket by Rishabh Pant while going for an ambitious pull shot. Three balls later Crawley (18) was done in by a peach of a delivery from Reddy as he was caught behind by Pant.
The five-match series is level at 1-1 levelled the series at 1-1 after England won the first match at Headingley by five wickets before India's crushing 336-run victory in the second Test at Edgbaston.
As expected Jasprit Bumrah returned to the Indian team, replacing Prasidh Krishna in the only change to the playing XI from the team that won the second Test at Edgbaston.
Serious question marks were raised over the efficacy of the Indian pacers after the first Test in Leeds, but the trio of Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah gives a potent look to the attack.
England too made just once change with Jofra Archer replacing fellow seamer Josh Tongue.
England struggled to take wickets against India, who scored more than 1,000 runs in a Test match for the first time in history in the second match and the hosts will hope Archer's pace can be a lethal weapon at Lord's.
The return of Bumrah and Archer, who will play his first Test for England in four years, will only make the batters’ task tougher at the Home of Cricket.
