With that IPL 2020 comes to an end! What a joy ride it has been. Thank you for joining the covearge of IPL 2020 on Deccan Herald. It has been our pleasure to bring the thrills and the spills of the Indian Premier League to you. Untill next year when IPL comes back to India it is good bye!!!

Rohit Sharma recieves the IPL trophy from Saurav Ganguly and Jay Shah. He lifts the trophy and then takes it to his team waiting. Fireworks and confetti go off.

Rohit Sharma (Receives a cheque of INR 20,00,00,000) I' quite happy with how things went the whole season. We said at the start that we need the winning habit. We couldn't have asked for anything more, right on the money from ball 1 and we never looked back. I think a lot of credit goes to the people who worked behind the scenes - often they go unnoticed. Our work started long before the IPL started, and we wanted to make sure we filled the gaps in previous seasons. I had to find the balance to get the best out of them. I'm not someone who can run behind them with a stick, and it's important to instil confidence in the players. Krunal, Hardik and Pollard have done their job for a long time, they know their roles. Rahul missed out today, and we need to make sure we put an arm around him and assure him that he didn't do anything wrong and that it was a tactical move. We made sure Ishan and Surya had confidence - just have to let Ishan loose, and Surya is a more matured player. The kind of form he was in, I should have sacrificed my wicket for Surya. But throughout the tournament he has played some incredible shots. Unfortunately we couldn't have the fans at the stadium. We missed playing at the Wankhede and hopefully we can get back there next year.

Mahela Jayawardene (receives the winners' memento on behalf of the team): It was a tough tournament. There were a lot of superstitions about odd years. I have to congratulate Ricky and his team, they have had a great season and they were a tough opponent today. WE had a great preparation, and we tried to manage them well and ensure they didn't overdo or underdo any of the work. Big-hitting has been in MI's DNA for a long time. We have tried to bring in the touch play a little bit to balance it out. Credit to the management who bought into our ideas and that helped create history today.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene collects the momentos on behalf of his team.

Shreyas Iyer ( He collects a cheque of INR12,50,00,000): Ricky, the amount of freedom he gives us is outstanding. THe way he motivates players is simply amazing. His team meetings and motivational speeches it quite incredible. The IPL always amazes you, it's one of the toughest leagues to play. I'm overwhelmed to be part of it, and I'm really proud of my boys, the way they have played to reach the final, it's not easy. Winning the IPL would have been better, but we will see to it that we lift the trophy next year. I would like to thank our fans, and we're thankful for all the support that has been showered on us throughout the season.

Ricky Ponting: MI have been the best team, they've beaten us 4 times. Being coach it's a little frustrating in the dugout but at the end of the day I'm really proud of the job the boys have done. Iyer is a brilliant player, captain and person. He's definitely grown in stature in the last 12 months. Hopefully we can work together a bit more in the future. We probably had 3.5 weeks of prep before the tournament, so we had a little too much preparation. We had a really challenging tour, I was sceptical about leaving Australia but the organizers have done a terrific job. I think we have the youngest squad in the tournament and I'm extremely proud of them.

DC head coach Ricky Ponting collects the momentos on behalf of his team.

Trent Boult: Some days I do like the powerplay. It's been a good few months, giving the franchise a good start. With everything going on, I've been welcomed in the side. To have made it across the line, it's been worth it. I wasn't aware of the talk, but I did have a niggle coming into the match. I wanted to be on the stage and happy I came through. I'd like to say I'm relatively experiened. Just another match, and I was clear what I had to do. Tried to take a few early wickets, swing the new ball a little bit, that's been my role in the side.

Player of the Match

Trent Boult is the Player of the Match. Boult bowled a spell of 4-0-30-3.

Trivia Alert!

Most T20 finals won:

15 - Kieron Pollard

14 - Dwayne Bravo

12 - Shoaib Malik

10 - Rohit Sharma

9 - Lasith Malinga

Kieron Pollard: It's a great feeling. I've been here 11 years, fifth trophy. No one sees the planning and training, it's pressure playing for a franchise like this. The amount of trophies, the amount of work, the amount of players who go on to play for their countries, I think we'll have to say so [that this is the best T20 franchise]. Kudos to the owners and management. Long may that continue. Dwayne Bravo you're behind now and I'm in front of you, just had to say it on camera.

Robin Singh (Mumbai Indians coach): It's always nice to be bheind the scenes to try and conttibute to someone's success. Ishan has taken a lot of responsibulity, alongside guys like Polly. We do celebrate, it's just that I don't show it in front. [Pollard confirms Robin keeps it subtle, after Hardik says off screen that Robin is always in the gym at 6am no matter what].

Jayant Yadav: Just happy to win the title. Great feeling to be a champion side for two consecutive years. Shows the strength of the franchise. It's the effort you put in throughout the season. It's a long tournament and you have to be professional and on your toes. It's about working constantly throughout the season. It's part and parcel of playing in this league. There'll be small-small battles you have to fight. Small matchups.

Rahul Chahar: Feels great. Me not playing isn't important, winning is. I feel great to have contributed to us coming first. I can bowl quick, bowl slow and I have the variations as well. It takes me half an hour for this hairstyle before the match.

Quinton de Kock: Mumbai have a great set up, so we've been able to move with the gym work and training and stuff. We're reaping the rewards today for it. It's a great feeling. I think this year because there were so many questions around Mumbai in general, whether we can win back to back, we put in extra effort. You can see it's paid off. We worked extra hard on the nitty gritties.

Nathan Coulter-Nile: Felt good as a first time winner. Patto bowled beautifully, so I was happy to sit on the sidelines and wait for a chance, which it came. Felt started doing well towards the end of the tournament.

Ishan Kishan: I think to be honest, I was not looking in good shape before this season. I spoke Krunal and Haridk and worked on my fitness and my off-side play.

Krunal Pandya: It's the hunger to be at the top always. We never take any game lightly and in every game there was always that 100% effort. Even back in Mumbai we prepared hard, we came one month early, everyone knew their roles and everyone was just going out there and executing what they were doing in the nets. There was never a doubt about Ishan Kishan's talent. He was ready to listen and ready to improve. All credit goes to him for how he came back in this season, It isn't easy to bat at four, then open and come back to four. Really really happy about how he has gone about this season.

Hardik Pandya: [Not being able to bowl] didn't bother me. I enjoy what I do. For me it's about the opportunity. It's all about preparation. On that we did well and focused on improving day by day.

Jasprit Bumrah: Very happy, we have worked hard, we started preparing before others, we worked through process. We wanted to break the jinx of winning every two years. Very happy as a team. It means a great deal, the pandemic has been such a shock, we are just grateful to come back and play cricket, something we love. We are just happy we could bring back some smiles to the people back home, it's been a tough few months. From the first game, I feltmy rhythm was up, when I bowled the super over here, I felt I could execute against AB and Virat. Since then, my confidence went up, I just wanted to keep things simple and repeat the basics every time.

Suryakumar Kumar Yadav: Preparations, processes and routine is important. they just one thing - we'll take care of this. You go and express yourself. [The Rohit sacrifice] he was batting really well. Most importantly, he's been anchoring well since the first game. I don't mind sacrificing for him at all.

MI Playing XI

Rohit Sharma: To be really honest I was very confused, so don't mind losing the toss. It is going to be a good track, it doesn't change much. We have to bowl aggressively at the start and then see how it goes. It feels nice to be part of another final. It is going to be a cracker of a game. The past doesn't matter, it is a fresh day, a fresh game and the pressure of this final will be different. But the guys have been in these pressure situations before, they understand the pressure of finals and yes, we have just got to treat this as another game. Hopefully we can execute what we've discussed on the field. Everyone's fit, but just one chance -- Rahul Chahar misses out and Jayant Yadav comes in. Just a tactical move considering the amount of left-handers they have in the side. Rahul has been bowling really well for us so sad to leave him out, but Jayant is a quality bowler as well.

Shreyas Iyer: We'll bat. It really worked out pretty well in the last game. When you have a really good total on the board the bowling gets a lot of confidence. We've seen it through the tournament and in a big final runs on the board helps The wicket also looks amazing to bat on. They have been champions through the years and even the way they've been playing this season. We have nothing to lose, we havr to embrace it and have no regrets at the end of it. The team atmosphere is really motivated, we are in a good mood and have to enjoy the day. We are sticking with the same team.

Toss

DC captain Shreyas Iyer wins the toss and opts to bat.

Pitch Report

A good even pitch which has something to offer for the batsmen and the bowlers. But this being the final it is always preferable to bat first.

Deccan Herald’s Dream XI

Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Kieron Pollard, R Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul Chahar

Impact player for DC

Shikhar Dhawan: If he does well, DC are able to put up big totals and chase down daunting scores. He is second on the Orange Cap list with 603 runs. With weaknesses in DC’s batting exposed in recent matches, it's up to Dhawan to deliver a good start and ease the pressure on the middle order.

Impact player for MI

Jasprit Bumrah: With 27 wickets, he is second on the Purple Cap list. He has been brilliant this season and has got rid of the best batsmen at critical junctures. This is Bumrah's time to take his team to the title.

Trivia Alert!

Ahead of the final here are two important trivias:

1. Rohit Sharma has never lost an IPL final as a skipper.

2. Chennai Super Kings is the only team to win the IPL titles back to back.

So come end of the night will Rohit Sharma keep his perfect record in IPL final intact and will MI become the second team after CSK to win back to back IPL titles?

What has happened between the two teams in the clashes earlier this season?

Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals have met three times this season. MI emerged victorious in all of the clashes.

Good evening and welcome to the coverage of the Grand Final of IPL 2020. After nearly two months of thrilling action we are down to two teams, four-time champions Mumbai Indians and first time finalist Delhi Capitals to battle for the IPL 2020 title.

The SWOT for DC

Strengths: DC's bowlers have taken them to the final. They have the current Purple Cap holder and the bowler with the fastest delivery in IPL history. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje have troubled batsmen all through the season. Rabada can bowl at any stage of the innings and get wickets. R Ashwin and Axar Patel have got wickets and also contained the run flow when needed.

Weaknesses: They are likely to open with Shikhar Dhawan and Marcus Stoinis after their success in DC's last encounter. If one of them fails, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer need to step up and take the team home. Inconsistent batting and poor application have caused most of DC’s losses this season.

Opportunities: It took 13 years but a maiden IPL trophy is within Delhi's reach.

Threats: The players will likely feel the huge pressure of the big occasion. That might lead to mistakes at crucial points in the match. Senior players like R Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan should encourage the younger lot to play with freedom without worrying about the result.

The SWOT for MI

Strengths: MI’s bowling has been outstanding and has been the season's best attack by far. Two of the three leading wicket-takers for the season - Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult - belong to MI. While Bumrah uses his yorkers and variations to great effect, Boult troubles batsmen with early swing. Although he has been benched in recent matches, James Pattinson did well in the first phase of the tournament. Rahul Chahar has been a brilliant spinner who takes wickets and contains runs. Krunal Pandya has supported them well.

Weaknesses: Nathan Coulter-Nile has got just three wickets in six matches. He seems to be preferred over Pattinson due to his lower-order batting strength. With MI's considerable batting depth, is Coulter-Nile really needed? Pattinson already has 11 wickets and has done pretty well so far. In the biggest match of the season, Pattinson may be the better choice.

Opportunities: MI are already the most successful IPL team and one of the best T20 sides of all time. An unprecedented fifth title would etch the team's name in history and raise the team's stature that much higher than all others.

Threats: They should be wary of the injuries to key players. Rohit Sharma and Trent Boult have both been injured recently. If they have not fully recovered and take the field, their performances could be hampered. They may also aggravate their injuries and do more damage.
