Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday stayed clear of the ongoing controversy over the non-selection of batsman Karun Nair.
Nair, who was left out of the squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies, had said that there was no communication from the selectors about their decision. The selection committee received flak from all quarters for dropping the Karnataka batsman who didn’t get a game in the five-match Test series against England.
The issue took a fresh turn when MSK Prasad, the chairman of the senior selection committee, said he had a lengthy chat with the right-handed batsman and was informed of the ways to make a comeback.
Kohli felt he had very little to say about the matter. “These things shouldn’t be bought here,” began Kohli when asked about the controversy. “The selectors have already spoken about it and it’s not my job to respond. If a person is spoken to about a certain topic then it should be clear for everyone that there is nothing else in this.”
Kohli said he didn’t have a say in the selection. “People merge everything and make it a circle. I am doing my job as a captain and they are doing their duties as selectors. It’s not a joint thing here. People think that it’s a combined process and everything is happening from one place and that’s not true. Selection is not part of my job and I don’t think I am in a position to comment on this issue. It’s not a job of a captain to talk about it. It’s completely up to the selectors” he said.
