Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC have suspended the salaries of the first team players and staff indefinitely, citing the uncertainty over the Indian Super League’s immediate future, the club said in a statement late on Monday night.
“In view of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League season, Bengaluru Football Club has taken what is a very difficult decision of indefinitely suspending the salaries of players and staff belonging to the First Team,” said BFC.
“Running and sustaining a football club in India has always been an uphill climb, one that we have put everything aside and made, season after season. However, the lack of clarity on the League’s future leaves us with no choice but to take this step," the club added.
On July 11, the ISL announced that the competition would be “on hold” due to the uncertainty over the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between the AIFF and the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).
In the span of a few short weeks, the footballing sirens in the country started to blow up and as caution started to bleed through the teams, eight clubs, including BFC sent a joint letter to the AIFF on July 28 stating their issues and concerns.
As per the latest development, the AIFF has said that the governing body’s top heads will meet the CEOs of the concerned clubs in Delhi on August 7.
