FIFA has revamped their Club World Cup tournament for this year after much planning and deliberation. This time the competition will have 32 clubs from across the globe competing for the top prize.
The United States will be hosting the tournament as a prelude to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Here is all you need to know about it:
A total of 32 teams are playing in the revamped edition of the FIFA Club World Cup. Earlier, the tournament would be held in the month of December with the winners of intercontinental tournaments playing among themselves.
However, now FIFA has planned to make it a quadrennial event with 32 teams, making it similar in format to the FIFA World Cup.
The 32 teams have been divided into eight groups of four teams each. Teams in each group will play against each other in a league format, and the top two from each team will qualify for the knockout rounds.
The total prize money pot the FIFA Club World Cup is a whopping $1 billion. About half of the money will be divided among all of the clubs based on their sporting ability and commercial viability.
Another $475 million will be awarded on the basis of performance.
Group stage: June 14 to 26
Round of 16: June 28 to July 1
Quarterfinals: July 4 and 5
Semifinals: July 8 and 9
Final: July 13
All matches of the 2025 FIFA World Cup will be streamed free of cost on DAZN.com.
While Lionel Messi will be playing in the FIFA Club World as part of Inter Miami, Cristiano Ronaldo has clearly stated he will not feature in the competition.
Inter Miami has entered the competition as a club of the host nation. Although they lost the MLS Cup to LA Galaxy, Miami entered the competition instead of them as the team to have scored the most points in the MLS season.
