Liverpool on Sunday sealed a sensational first-season Premier League title for manager Arne Slot, dismantling Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 in front of a hungry, defeaning Anfield crowd.

With this title, Liverpool's second in the PL era, the English giants equalled Manchester United's Ferguson-era record of winning 20 top-flight seasons in English football.

Slot also became the fifth-ever manager to win a PL title in their debut season, and the first Dutchman to win a top-flight English football season.

As expectation hung heavy in the air, Spurs drew first blood through Dominic Solanke in the 12th minute, silencing Liverpool fans, but Anfield roared back louder moments later as Luis Diaz slotted home for the hosts.

Alexis Mac Allister then put an expectant Liverpool ahead with a long-range stunner, while Cody Gakpo put some distance between the two teams, converting with a low shot after a corner and putting the hosts comfortably up by three goals to one, heading into half-time.

Liverpool began the second half quickly, constantly piling pressure on the shaky visitors, and almost inevitably, Mohamed Salah added a fourth in signature style, piling more misery on Spurs in front of a deafening Kop that roared in the voices of millions of fans around the world.

Dominik Szoboszlai almost scored a fifth with an assist from Salah moments later, but was denied by the Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

But there was no respite for Spurs: as if predestined, Destiny Udogie's unfortunate brush with a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the ball hit the back of the Spurs net.

Liverpool conjured a few other opportunities to add a sixth, coming very close in the 90th minute, and finished the game as they began, relentless and hungry for more, a sign of things to come under their new, brilliant manager.
