Gauri Monga returned the best card on the final day, but her effort wasn’t good enough to displace overnight leader Gurbani Singh from walking away with the top honours in the Ladies section of the Usha Southern India Ladies and Junior Girls golf championship here on Thursday.
Gurbani, who had a narrow one-stroke lead over Aditi Ashok, carded 71 (219) emerging the winner
by three strokes ahead of the second-placed Gauri (222), who had a superb two-under 70 in the final round. Winner of three titles in 2011, it was a sweet revenge for the 16-year-old who had finished runner-up behind Aditi at the season-opening Usha Delhi Ladies Golf.
Aditi had to be content with the third spot. In fact, the Bangalore girl produced the day’s worst card -- a seven over 79 -- in the Ladies category that blew away her hopes of finishing on top. It was, however, not all gloom for Aditi. The teenager won the Category ‘B’ (13-14 years) with a comfortable seven-stroke lead (228) over Ridhima Dilawari (235).
Tanirika Singh (260) claimed Category ‘C’ (11-12 years) while Vasundhara Thiara (273) bagged the top place in Category ‘D’ (10 & below).
