The chess world will have two World Blitz Champions for the first time in its history after former World Champion Magnus Carlsen agreed to share the title with Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi after three sudden-death games failed to produce a winner.
It was Carlsen who made the suggestion to Nepomniachtchi, who then accepted it.
"People of course understand that we are both tired and nervous. Some people are going to like it; some are not going to like it. Is the way it is," Carlsen said after the annoucement.
