Arjun won the first Gold Medal of event in Discus throw after his effort cleared 58.72 metres. “I am happy after putting up a good performance winning the gold for India. It’s good reward for my hard practice sessions,” said Arjun.

Akiba Kenta (51.84M) of Japan finished second, while Kazakhstan’s Milovatsky Yevgeniv (51.73M) won a bronze. In athletics, Rahul Kumar fetched a silver medal in 1500M race. Rahul clocked 4:05.01 to finish second behind Layah Waleed Saleh Ali of Yemen, who clocked 4:00.91. Iran’s Beyranvand Amir was third with a timing of 4:05.32.

Pooja Varhade, meanwhile, settled for a bronze medal in the 1500M women’s race with a time of 4:39.04secs.

India are being represented by 48 athletes in seven disciplines -- athletics, swimming, diving, shotting, table tennis, beach volleyball and basketball.
