Unable to host any important events for the last two years due to renovation works, the Karnataka Golf Association is now ready to host the event that has already attracted the best talents in India.

Some 106 golfers -- both boys and girls -- will vie for the top prize on the par-71 course spread across 7,227 yards. Competitors will be categorised into four age groups -- under-10 (Group D), between 11-12 (Group C), between 13-14 (Group B) and between 15-17 (Group A).

While golfers in Group A, B and C will clash over four rounds -- with the cut being applied at the end of the second round -- competition for Group D will commence only on Wednesday.

In the absence of Rashid Khan, who graduated to the senior ranks after clinching the season-ending Haryana Open earlier this month, local ace S Chikkarangappa is the strong favourite here.

Although the 16-year-old trains at the Eagleton Golf Course, his experience of playing at the KGA should hold him in good stead.

IGU Secretary-General Satish Aparajit said the junior circuit was shaping up well and steps were being taken to improve the sport among women as well.
