A close first game went in favour of Ajay 21-18. But Krishna fought back in the second and took the game 21-16 to send the match into the decider. With the tie in balance, Krishna held his nerve in the final game to win it 21-16 and with it the match.
Rohan Castelino also moved into the pre-quarterfinals with a comfortable 21-13, 21-9 win over Jamsheed while Mohit Kamat scored a straight-game victory over Rohit L 21-9, 21-11. In another match, Rishkesh Yeligar scored a battling win over Sonic Prabhudesai. After losing the first game 16-21, Rishikesh won the next two 21-10, 21-7 to enter the second round.
