Ambati Rayudu, miffed at his omission from India's World Cup team, took a jibe at the selectorial decision on Tuesday, saying he has ordered a set of 3D glasses to watch the World Cup.

After the team selection on Monday, the selection committee chairman M S K Prasad had stated that Vijay Shankar's three-dimensional skills had got him the nod ahead of Rayudu.

"We did give a few more chances to Rayudu but what Vijay Shankar offers is three dimensions; apart from his batting, he can bowl. If the conditions are overcast, he might bowl a bit and he is a fantastic fielder," Prasad had said.

Rayudu, obviously peeved with his omission, reacted with a touch of sarcasm. "Just ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the World Cup," he wrote on his Twitter handle.

The batsman's comment triggered a wave of support on social media, with many applauding his sense of humour and appreciating the sarcasm.

In his quest to ramp up his limited-overs game, Rayudu had even given up on red ball cricket but he has struggled to be consistent.

Three poor outings against Australia in the five-match ODI home series seemed to have put paid to his hopes. The experienced batsman also could not light up the Indian Premier League in a way he would have liked.

The batsman was the team's number four since the Asia Cup last year. Between then and the home series against Australia, Rayudu scored one century and four fifties. A 113-ball 90 in New Zealand earlier this year paved the way for India's victory after they were tottering at one stage.
