Bengaluru: South Western Railway prevailed over the Beagles BC 75-66 in a thrilling Mathru Cup final here at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.
It was SWR who opened the account with a 2-pointer only for the Beagles to score back immediately. At the end of a well-fought first quarter, the score read 22-18 in favour of SWR. In the second quarter, Beagles started off on a positive note with Mekhala scoring a 2 pointer. The Beagles continued to maintain pressure but SWR kept went on to build a good lead. Beagles missed as many as 10 three-pointers and looked down on energy.
The break did the Beagles a lot of good as they came back stronger and went for the final break having trimmed SWR lead to two points (58-56).
In the fourth quarter, however, SWR fought with a renewed energy and kept increasing the lead before rounding off the game with a nine-point lead.
On the occasion, the Karnataka State Basketball Association felicitated State girls’ team that won the gold at the 39th Youth National Basketball Championship, boys’ team that clinched silver in the same event and the men’s team that finished fourth at the 74th Senior Nationals.
