Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has been removed as the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) with majority of district cricket associations coming together to propose a no confidence motion against him.
The rebel group led by BJP leader Amin Pathan claimed that out of 33 district associations, 23 have supported the no confidence motion against Modi and three other office bearers, including Mohamed Abdi (Senior vice-president), Somendra Tiwari (Secretary) and Pawan Goyal (Treasurer).
Pathan, who is the president of Kota District Cricket Association, has been nominated as the acting president of the RCA. “There are 33 district associations and 23 have supported the no confidence motion against Modi and three others. Everything was done under the constitution of the RCA. A temporary executive committee has been formed and we will soon talk to the BCCI to break the deadlock,” said Pathan, acting president of RCA.
The controversial appointment of Lalit Modi as the RCA president not only led to a legal battle between two cricket bodies but BCCI had also suspended RCA from all tournaments affiliated to it. The new development is seen as an initiative by rebels to break the deadlock and ensure adequate funds from the BCCI.
“The decision to oust Modi was taken to save cricket and players in Rajasthan. We want everything to become normal. It will also save careers of our players who have been banned from participating in tournaments by BCCI. We will soon talk to BCCI,” said Pathan.
Supporters of Modi strongly opposed the move and claimed that their leader continued to be the president of RCA. They blamed that entire exercise was illegal and was done at the behest of ICC chairman and former BCCI president N Srinivasn.
