“It has been an overwhelming experience over the years,” Rotarian GV Radhakrishnan, who has conducted the event every year since starting it in 1999, told Deccan Herald.

“Golf is a wonderful game that offers opportunities for participants to interact amongst themselves. It provides us the platform to explain our commitment to community service so that corporates can be attracted to assist in some of our activities.”

A former marketing manager, Radhakrishnan realised the potential golf held beyond recreational purposes. “I hit upon the idea of hosting a corporate tournament that would not only attract money but also help Rotary expose its activities,” he said.

This year, the tournament has attracted 190 participants and the money generated will go towards part-financing of the Rotary Seva Bharati School. While the entry fee per person is Rs 1,250, a team of four will have to pay Rs 4,000.

The one-day tournament will be played on the stableford format and prizes include a three-night, four-day stay at Sri Lanka.

“The tournament had just 60 entries when it started, and has grown over the years. This year too, we expect to see some good golf,” said Radhakrishnan.
