Santosh leads MEG chargeAthletics: K A Nettakallappa Memorial Road Race: Smitha makes it two-in-a-row; Bhimappa clinches boys title

Santosh bagged a winner’s purse of Rs 5,000 while his team-mate Borappa pocketed Rs 3,500. Chougule had to be content with Rs 2,500.

Smitha C, who also won the title in Kolar last week, from Maharaja College, Mysore clinched the women’s event (6 km) which saw athletes aged as high as 70 take part. Shimoga’s Shabeena finished behind Smitha while Kutuja Multani of DYSS, Belgaum settled for third position. Smitha was richer by Rs 5,000 while Shabeena took home cheque of Rs 3,500.
Kutuja collected Rs 2,500. Local lass Mrudula Halgekar and Bhimappa from Moodbidri emerged winners in the 2.5 km race for under-16 girls and boys respectively.

Mailar Alagwadi of Dharwad took the second spot in boys’ section ahead of third-placed JB Vadavar, also from Dharwad. Farheen Shaikh of Belgaum settled for second place in girls’ category while Sonali Kuppatgiri, also from Belgaum, stood third.

The winners in the boys’ and girls’ category collected Rs 1,500 each in prize money.

Women (6km): Smitha C (Mysore, 23.01) 1; Shabeena (Shimoga, 24.36) 2; Kutuja Multani (DYSS Belgaum, 25.54) 3. U-16 boys (2.5km): Bhimappa (Moodbidri, 8.10) 1; Mailar Alagwadi (Dharwad, 8.17) 2; JB Vadavar (Dharwad, 8.22) 3. U-16 girls (2.5km): Mrudula Halgekar (Bel, 9.27) 1; Farheen Shaikh (Bel, 9.44) 2; Sonali Kuppatgiri (Bel, 10) 3.
