 Defending champion Sreedhar Savanur of Karnataka retained the Champion Race (60 km), the main attraction of the second edition of the Vodafone Cycling Marathon, held here on Sunday.

With over 6000 cyclists participating in various categories of the event, Sreedhar of Wheel Sports, clocked 1:31.51 seconds to finish first while Tamil Nadu’s C Rajesh (1:31.58) and Indian Army’s Atul Kumar (1:32.58) settled for second and third place respectively.

“I am elated to win for the second straight time here and I am looking forward to continue my winning streak. I also urge many more cycling enthusiasts to consider cycling as a serious sport,” said Sreedhar, who walked away with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakhs.

The runner-up was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1.75 lakhs while the third place winner bagged Rs 1.25 lakhs.

The Champion Race also witnessed the presence of 150 elite cyclists licensed under Cycle Federation of India (CFI).  In the Passion Race (40 km), Sohel Bargir of Karnataka finished first to take home cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The other categories of the event were Green Ride (20 km), Fashion Ride (5 km) and Kids Ride.
