Shweta Rana stunned second-seeded Rishika Sunkara 7-5, 6-1 to storm into the women's singles second round of the Fenesta National tennis championship at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Monday.
In the other women’s singles match, Riya Bhatia showed the door to Arantxa Andrady 6-1, 6-0. There were no such setbacks in the men competition, with top seed Sriram Balaji easing into the men’s singles second round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Delhi’s Rubal Shandilya.
Jayaprakash advances
It was routine in the other men’s matches as well with third seed Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash and Sidharth Rawat entering the second round. Mohit overcame a stiff challenge from Jayesh Pungliya 7-5, 7-6(8-6) while Sidharth Rawat handed Paramveer Singh Bajwa a 6-3, 6-0 drubbing.
In the boys' under-18 section, top seed Aryan Goveas blanked Jaydeep Chudasama 6-0, 6-0 while seventh seed Alex Solanki had an easy outing against Amarnath Arora to won 6-1, 6-3.
