Three records were created on the second day of the 75th All India inter-university athletics championship, being organised by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, here on Saturday.

In men’s high jump, Srinith Mohan of Alva’s College representing Mangalore University set a new record clearing 2.20 metres. Srinath broke the record of Jagadeep Singh of Amritsar set in 2011.

“My first two attempts were not satisfying. I was eager not to make any mistake in my third attempt and I was successful,” said Srinith. “I hope to create a new record in the National Games at Kerala next month.”

In the women’s 5000 metres, Sanjeevini Baburao Jadhav of Savitribai Phule Pune University placed her name in the record books clocking 16:36.45, surpassing Naujoban Kaur’s mark (17:00).

Sanjeevini thanked her coach for her performance. “Along with my hard work, my coach Vijendra Singh too has played a role by guiding me properly,” said Sanjeevini.

In the 400M hurdles, Vijay Singh Malik of Punjabi University, Patiala emerged winner in 51.51 seconds, a new record. Vijay erased the previous mark set by Shelik Varghese of Calicut University (52.12 seconds).

Priyanka S Kalagi of Alva’s College representing Mangalore University emerged winner in the women’s 100 metres race in a time of 11.96 seconds.
