Speedo, a world famous swimwear brand, on Wednesday roped in a handful of promising Indian swimmers to form ‘Team Speedo India’ here.

Mentored by former Olympic swimmer Nisha Millet, nine swimmers will be sponsored by Speedo till 2020. The project includes Aaron D'Souza, Aditi Dhumatkar, Ananya Panigrahi, Damini Gowda, Trisha Karkhanis, Ansh Arora, Madhu PS, and Arvind Mani.

Speaking on the latest development Shamir Genomal, Chief Strategy Officer, Speedo India said that Speedo was committed towards helping prospective talent attain higher heights.

“Team Speedo sees some of India's brightest swimming talent merged with a winning formula through our swimwear to provide them with optimum efficiency once they dive into the pool. We want to be a part of the creation of the next Ryan Lochte of India and we hope that Team Speedo will bolster that process,” said Shamir.

Yet to make the cut for the Rio Games in his events, Olympic hopeful D'Souza, who will be seen in action at the Malaysian and the Japan Open next month said that he will have to weigh in his options if he fails to make the cut at the Asian meets.

“It would depend on how I perform at these meets. We’ll have to sit and discuss that. I believe, it’s easy for us (Indians) to swim in Asia as the weather conditions are more suitable and we can adjust well than in Europe and Australia,” he said.
