India had earned their place in the 2026 qualifiers after a 3-1 win over Switzerland in their Davis Cup 2025 World Group I tie at Biel in September (marking it the first win over a European team since 1993), while the Netherlands earned a direct entry by virtue of being runners-up in the previous edition.

Led by Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh, the performance also marked India’s strongest result since the competition format changed in 2019.

India, ranked No. 33 in Davis Cup ranking, has reached the finals three times (1966, 1974 and 1987).

In the upcoming tie, India will face a strong opponent as the Netherlands, are currently ranked No. 4.

The last time the two teams competed in the Davis Cup was in 2003, when the Netherlands thumped India 5-0 at home. The overall head-to-head record stands at 2-2.

The seven teams that come through two rounds of qualifiers will join host Italy in the 2026 Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna.

The S M Krishna Tennis Stadium had recently hosted the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs.
