United SC test for BFC

Fresh on the back of a facile 3-0 victory against Churchill Brothers, Bengaluru FC will be looking to topple United SC to extend their lead at the top of the table when the two sides meet in an I-League encounter here at the Kalyani Stadium on Thursday.

BFC (34 from 18), four points ahead of the second-placed Pune, will start strong favourites as United SC (20 from 18) haven’t won a League game since November 23 when they beat Dempo 2-1.

The home side have not won in nine games and are in danger of relegation if they don’t arrest the slide. They also suffered a humiliating a 4-0 loss against Rangdajied in their last I-League game.

However, BFC have not replicated their home form on the road having picked up only 10 of the available 21 points and this could be a cause for their coach Ashley Westwood.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Westwood said he was proud of the way his team reacted to recent results to bounce back against Churchill.

“The mark of any successful side in any country in the world is how you react to defeats and we showed tremendous character to bounce back (against Churchill),” Westwood said.

With just one of their remaining matches at home, BFC need to consistently start winning away from home if they want to stay at the top of the league.
