Vasisht, Rawat in U-16 tennis tourney title clash

The top two seeds, C. Vasisht of Karnataka and Mayuk Rawat of Uttarakhand set up a title clash in the boys singles event of the KTPPA-AITA National Series Under-16 tennis tournament here Friday.

Vasisht , a trainee of former Davis Cupper Prahald Srinath at SAT Academy, outplayed fifth seed PC Anirudh of Andhra Pradesh 6-2, 6-2, while Rawat overcame eighth seed Vignesh Subramanya of Karnataka at 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in a marathon tie lasting three and a half hours.

It was also the end of the road for third seed S. Soha of Karnataka who went down to the top seed R. Abinikka of Tamil Nadu 2-6, 2-6, in the girls singles semi-finals and Rishika Ravi, also from Tamil Nadu, battled past Sarah Dev of Punjab 1-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1).

Girls doubles final: Shivani Manjanna (Kar) / Rishika Ravi (TN) bt S Soha / Nikita Pinto (Kar) 5-7, 6-2, 10-8; Sarah Dev / Baani Singh (Pnb) bt R Abinikka (TN) / Sai Harsha Challa 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

Boys doubles final: Yugal Bansal (Del) / Utkarsh Bharadwaj (Utk) bt Akash Nandhawal (MP) / Anshuman Gulia (Del) 6-3, 4-6, 14-12.
