“It’s a very good feeling to get a hundred, and it’s all the more special to get one against Mumbai in Mumbai. Even last season, I had a few fifties and sixties, but didn’t get that many hundreds, and now I want convert my starts and get more hundreds,” Verma said.
Verma also said his familiarity with the venue helped him during the knock.
“I had spent some time here a few years back, and that helped me to know the conditions here.
“I know the ball would swing here in the morning, so my strategy was to see off the new ball. Fortunately, it worked in my favour today, and it was a great help that Vinay was at the other end. He’s a cool customer, and someone who can stay at the wicket and take the pressure off his partner,” Verma said.
The left-hander said Karnataka bowlers now will have to remain patient and keep a tidy line against Mumbai batsmen.
“This is a pretty flat wicket, and nothing much is happening. So, we need to keep things tight and make scoring a difficult proposition for the Mumbai batsmen.
“They will also get some partnership going, so we need to remain patient and bowl in good areas,” he said.
Indeed, Mumbai batsmen have done well this season and Karnataka bowlers will have to be on their toes as they attempt to rein in the home team on the third day.
