He was 72 and is survived by his wife and a daughter. Mane, a native of Kavathepiran in Sangli district, had won the Hind Kesari title in 1964 after beating wrestlers from Punjab, considered to be a tough task, in Haryana.
His crowning glory came when he won the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. He was also awarded Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar and Shiv Chatrapati Award by the Maharashtra government in 2005 and Dhyanchand Award by the central government in 2005. Mane was also active in political and cooperative movements in Sangli district.
