Samsung has recently started beta testing Android 16-based One UI 8 for select smartphones, including Galaxy S25 series models. The new mobile OS comes with several features such as a refreshed Material-3 UI design and is optimised to deliver an enhanced user experience in different device form factors, and personalised, proactive suggestions.
Samsung says that user privacy is at the core of the new One UI 8. The previous version had 'Personal Data Engine (PDE), a critical component of safely delivering highly customised generative Artificial Intelligence experiences.
It tracked habits and preferences, and based on that information, it offered truly personalised suggestions, and most importantly, the personal data was securely protected within the device.
Now, to further enhance user privacy, Samsung is bringing Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a new powerful protective layer of on-device security that protects the owner's most sensitive data without affecting the user experience.
Several Galaxy AI features, such as Smart Suggestions, Now Brief, Samsung Moments and more, which run quietly in the background, are fully protected with KEEP security cover to ensure nobody, including Samsung, can access them.
Additionally, Samsung phones will get Secure Folder, where users can store private photos, videos, files, apps, and data separately from the main phone storage. It can only be accessed by the owner of the device with a separate passcode and biometric security.
Samsung is currently running One UI 8 beta testing in Germany, India, Poland, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It will expand to more regions in the coming weeks.
In a related development, Samsung is all geared up to host the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event on July 9.
It is said to launch a new line of Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 series foldable phones along with the Galaxy Watch8 series in New York.
