Thanks to reduction in prices, usage of TV projectors are seeing an uptick in homes worldwide. They come in different form factors and deliver high resolution picture quality almost on par with big screen TVs. And, unlike the latter, the TV projectors offers the flexibility to adjust screen sizes as per the space available on the wall.

Epson, the Japanese brand synonymous with world-class printers, imaging products, and LCD panels, is offering the EH-TW6250 series for Rs 1,42,990 in India.

I used the Epson's TV projector for close to a month and here are my thoughts on the EH-TW6250 series.

Design and build quality

The TW6250 is compact, and can easily fit on any small coffee table in the living room or any bedside table to stream content on a wall or custom-built screen.

It measures 275mm (D) x 333mm (W) x 131mm (H) in dimension and weighs around 4 kg. It is easy to carry around to any part of the house. If you want it placed permanently in a particular location, the company offers the option to install it on a stable mount fitted to a ceiling.

The body is made of sturdy polycarbonate-based material and has a matte finish.

Connectivity-wise, it features one HDMI (HDCP 2.3) port, USB 2.0 Type B (service only) port, jack plug out, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth 5.0.

User-interface

It runs Android TV OS and is easy to set up. User has to just turn on the power button on the projector or on the TV remote, which by the way comes with the retail box.

Like any smart TV, you have to follow the simple on-screen instructions and it usually takes a 15-20 minutes to finish the set-up. It also offers the option to link Android phones for easy control of the TV projector and also comes in handy to project the mobile on the projector screen. The box also comes wiht quick guide booklet for easy understanding of how the Epson projector works and its key features.

If you are not tech-savvy or a first-time buyer, I recommend getting an appointment with an Epson professional to set up the TV projector.

Besides the power button, the EH-TW6250 features physical keystone correction buttons for vertical and horizontal image shift so that the projected beam screen wall is even, up to plus or minus 30 degrees. Also, users can manually adjust the focus and 1.6x zoom to make the content appear sharp.

Also, it has four screw-down legs that ensures the projector sits on the surface with balance and projects the screen evenly on the wall.

Also, the device comes with built-in Google Chromecast and is also pre-loaded with some of the most popular Over-The-Top (OTT) apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more.

With the Google Play Store, users can install more OTT apps and also their favourite gaming apps.

Performance

It boasts 3LCD technology, meaning it has three transparent Liquid Crystal Display panels of three primary colours-- red, green and blue. This aids the projector in beaming images and motion pictures in vibrant and rich colours on the screen. And speaking of vibrant, it supports a maximum brightness of 2,300 lumens and 35,000:1 contrast ratio.

The projector houses a high quality light lamp and comes with up to 7,500 hours of life expectancy in Eco-Mode. It is equivalent to you watching one movie every day for close to the next one and a half decades (15 years) and not worrying about replacing it until 2040 (provided you buy it this year).

The projector offers full HD (1920X1080p) native resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. And, it also supports 4K Ultra High Definion and High Dynamic Range 10 (HDR1) content. It can support screen sizes ranging from 40-inches to 500-inches (diagonal).

Thanks to 3LCD technology, the Epson EH-TW6250 does an excellent job of producing rich vibrant motion pictures on the screen. The colours are natural and the blacks appear darker.

The most impressive aspect of the Epson EH-TW6250's 'Scene Adaptive Gamma', it makes the scene clearer even when the footage is shot with very little light. Even the dark scenes of the infamous dim-lighted Game of Thrones Season 8 episode 'The Long Night,' appear better than on TV. Even, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Night and Prashanth Neel's KGF-2 or Salaar will come off great on Epson's TV projector.

A couple of weeks ago, I watched all 13 episodes of Breaking Bad Season 3 on a stretch with a few minutes of breaks in between. And, that too in the daylight, the video quality was great. With the sunlight coming in from the windows, the clarity of the picture remained intact.

I checked for heat around the projector lens, the top part of the device was warm but never went out of control thanks to the fans, which keep things within the device cool.

Further, the the inbuilt 10W stereo speaker is absolute;y top-class. It manages to drown out the sound of the fans and ensure the audio of the motion picture is more pronounced and delivers an excellent viewing experience.

The Epson can also connect with X-Box and PlayStation consoles. It has a latency of 20 ms (milliseconds) to deliver a smooth gaming experience.

Final thoughts

For a Rs 1,42,990 price-tag, Epson EH-TW6250 is a well-packaged TV projector compared to other rival brands in its class.

What makes it a very compelling buy is that it is more convenient, trustworthy and costs way less compared to any premium 100-inch TV.

Epson has around 430 service centres across Indian cities and offers on-site inspection assistance to repair the TV projector.
