Last week, Vivo unveiled the new line of premium camera-centric X300 series in India.
It comes in two variants-- a standard X300 and a top-end X300 Pro-- with prices starting at Rs 75,999 and Rs 1,09,999, respectively.
Design, build quality and display
Vivo X300 Pro retains the design elements of the predecessor. It features a massive circular camera module with ZEISS branding on the back. In the 'Pro' model, the camera bump protrudes a bit more compared to the standard variant.
However, it doesn't affect the user experience much. When the phone is kept on the table with the camera facing down, it doesn't wobble at all. It remains stable even when vibrating during the phone call notification.
The device is made of top-notch premium materials. It has a strong aluminium frame around the edges of the display with a matte finish. Also, the back panel is protected by a very sturdy fibreglass shield.

And, on the front, it has Armor Glass protection, which is said to be 110 per cent better than the predecessor in terms of scratch resistance.
Add to that, the company offers a high-quality cover case free with the retail box. It is soft, sturdy and offers a really good grip for the fingers to hold on to the device, and there is a low chance of dropping it.
Even if it happens, the protective case can protect the device from shattering. Even if it falls with the display facing down, the case has a raised lip around the edges to ensure the screen doesn't crack. However, if the floor is uneven, like a road or rough concrete, it can't guarantee of protecting the device's display.
However, if it falls in a freshwater body, it can survive up to 1.5metres (around five feet) for close to 30 minutes. It can even handle a high-pressure water jet for a few seconds. It comes with an IP68+IP69 rating.
The device comes in two colours--Elite Black and Dune Gold. Our review unit is the latter, which is by the way, looks stunning in the sunlight. Also, thanks to the frosted glass finish, it manages to repel the fingerprint smudges quite effectively.

The flagship X300 Pro sports a big 6.78-inch 1.5K (2800 x 1260p) LTPO AMOLED screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Though it lacks an anti-reflective coating, I had a good time watching video vlogs, movies on the flight.
Outdoors too, I didn't have to squint much to read messages, as the display supports up to 4,500 nits peak brightness.
The Vivo phone also features dual-SIM slots (type: nano), an infrared sensor, a Type-C port and an ultrasonic optical in-display fingerprint sensor. By the way, the latter works amazingly well. It can accurately recognise the finger impression and unlock the home in a fraction of a second.
Performance
Vivo X300 Pro is powered by MediaTek's 3nm class Dimensity 9500 octa-core processor with Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU, NPU 990, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM (LPDDR5X Ultra Pro) and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage.
Be it graphics-heavy gaming or running generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) applications, the device performs smoothly without any hint of lag-ness as such.
Also, thanks to the cooling vapour chamber, the device manages to remain stable and efficiently dissipate the excessive heat when performing heavy-duty tasks.

The phone runs Android 16-based Origin OS 6. It comes with a lot of improvements over the previous version.
It has a new, refreshing user interface inspired by Android 16's Material-3 Expressive UI. It offers dynamic glow, ambient light and gradient glow options.
While gradient blur adds depth, the dynamic glow and system ambient lighting respond subtly to touch, giving each swipe and tap a natural sense of movement and lively animation.

It also features Origin Island, similar to the Dynamic Island feature we see on iPhones. This animation around the front camera will offer real-time updates on services such as live scores of Cricket matches on the sports app, real-time estimated time of arrival of food delivery, ETA of cabs, and more.
With the new glance feature, OriginOS 6 turns the lockscreen into a living, useful surface with animated wallpapers and Flexible Clock controls.
The new OriginOS 6 also improves copy-paste tasks effortlessly than before.
With the new Vivo Office Kit, users can make good use of the phone mirror option to control the PC or Mac — such as drag photos, copy text, or move files as if it’s one big screen.
It also brings the One Tap Transfer feature, where users can instantly transfer files between two devices, including to Apple devices, with less hassle.
The device comes with a 6,510mAh battery and can easily last a full day under normal usage.
It supports 90W ultra-fast flash charging and 40W wireless charging capability.

Final thoughts
Overall, the Vivo X300 Pro is an impressive premium camera phone.
Like with most flagship phones in the market, the new model's starting price is quite hefty compared to the predecessor. This is actually caused by increased costs of mobile silicon and storage chipsets, which are also in short supply worldwide.
